Meat lover’s diet – Dukan review

As the sunny days are getting closer and it’s never too late for New Year’s resolutions, I have decided to tell you all about Dukan diet. I have tried this diet a year and a half ago and it changed my life.
I am not going to tell you that I have lost hundreds of kilograms, as that wasn’t my aim in the first place (but it can be yours!), I learned to look at certain foods from a different angle, and that is what’s most important about any diet  – make your diet a lifestyle. Gedddit?

........Only this one actually works!

The focus of this incredibly easy and effective diet is to drastically reduce carbohydrate intake. It starts with 3 to 5 days protein only intake (pickles allowed, which is great) and for someone who LOVES meat, to me, it sounded great!
It really helps that it's very easy to order if you’re eating out – just opt for carb free meals. Most places have a steak and roasted vegetables on the menu. I found myself going to Bloody French (you HAVE TO try it if you love a good French steak)  quite often then. Or just go for sashimi! That was another one of my favorite treats.

You should be able to lose 3 to 5 kg at this stage to kick-start the look of new you. New you! Excited? i was.
Once you have survived the initial stage, it goes to cruising phase, where you are allowed to add vegetables to your meals.
But still no fruit (Due to insane amount of sugars - did you know that one large orange has 132 calories? That is almost a full meal!) or carbohydrates allowed.

From here, the meals get a little more varied and you can play with just steak and salad, fish and steamed veggies or crustless quiche recipes for a while. You can also have a little more adventurous meals where you can include special sauces made of fat free yogurt with spices. Let me remind you again of pickles. They are a lovely and crisp addition to these meals. Dukan Diet book provides some great recipes, but being a creative foodie myself, I preferred to invent my own.
Check out my Skinny Spicy Beef Wrap Recipe here.

Through this diet, I learned to replace oily and sugary salad dressings to fat free yogurt and mustard combination and swap cake desserts to fat free Muller Strawberry yogurt. (The habit I still have, although, now I do indulge in Crème Brule’s and French fries on a regular basis)
In later stages, you are allowed to start introducing cheese and healthy carbs such as brown rice and brown pasta as well as brown bread. You should get used to healthy, mixed type of carbs from here on if you wish to keep the look you’ve achieved and are so happy with. Don't you want to show off that summerbod?!?! eh?

Dont forget to drink lots of water!! It's insanely good for you and will help you shape up.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my food and you will see it in my posts in future, but it was a wonderful lesson to have learned and it helped me immensely on my way to changed horrible eating habits to more reasonable healthier options. Once the diet is over, it’s all about balance. If you are planning to have French fries and Crème Brule for dinner, have eggs for breakfast and protein with vegetables for lunch!

Let me know how you get on with this and if you have any questions – I would love to hear from you!

    1. I am so glad to hear that!! :-) Whilst on Dukan diet, in the first stage (3 to 5 days protein only)I wouldnt advice drinking at all as the hangover is just vile! But afterwards, Gin and Slimline Tonic, Vodka and diet coke (or any other sugar free mixer) should be totally fine.... In moderation!
And yes, I will be putting up some lovely recipes up soon;-) xxx
